FAQ

Does Ultherapy Hurt? What It Feels Like in Seoul

Quick answer

Ultherapy causes short bursts of deep heat or a prickling ache as each line is delivered, strongest over bony areas like the jawline and temples. Discomfort stops when the pulse ends, and most people find it tolerable. At The Heal in Jamsil, Seoul, we use topical numbing and adjust energy for your comfort. What Ultherapy feels like

Micro-focused ultrasound delivers heat to precise depths beneath the skin, including the SMAS layer. With each pulse, you may feel a quick, deep warmth, a tingling or a sensation like a small electrical snap, lasting about a second. Between pulses there is no pain. Because the heat targets deeper tissue, sensitivity varies by area: thinner skin over bone, such as the jawline, temples and along the brow, tends to feel stronger than the cheeks. Ultherapy Prime also uses live imaging so energy is placed precisely where planned.

How we keep it comfortable

  • Topical numbing cream applied before treatment.
  • Adjusted energy and depth in more sensitive zones.
  • Pacing and breaks whenever you need them.
  • Clear communication , so you always know which area comes next.

Tell us if a line feels too strong. Comfort and effectiveness can be balanced, and the doctor will adjust settings rather than ask you to push through.

Most patients describe the experience as very manageable, and many say it was easier than they expected once they knew what each pulse would feel like.

Is Sofwave or Titanium less painful?

Comfort differs between devices. Sofwave works at a shallower depth with built-in cooling, and Titanium is known for being very comfortable with no downtime, though both act differently from Ultherapy's deep SMAS lifting. If discomfort worries you, mention it at consultation; Dr. Yang can suggest a gentler device or combination that still matches your goals. See Sofwave vs Ultherapy .

Your comfort level is part of choosing the right device; there is no need to choose the most intense option to get a good result.

After treatment

Any discomfort ends with the pulse. Afterward, some people feel mild tenderness when touching the jawline for a few days, like a light bruise. This is normal and gradually fades. Read how long Ultherapy recovery takes . If you are anxious about pain, ask us about comfort options before you book .

Taking things slowly and following aftercare helps any lingering tenderness pass quickly.

The Heal approach

Dr. Yang adjusts depth and energy line by line, so sensitive areas are treated effectively without unnecessary discomfort.

Frequently asked

Related questions

  • Is Ultherapy more painful than Thermage?

They feel different. Ultherapy produces deeper, brief heat pulses, while Thermage FLX gives a surface heat with cooling and vibration. Sensitivity varies by person, and both are generally tolerable with numbing.

  • Can I take a painkiller before Ultherapy?

Ask the doctor first. Some over-the-counter pain relievers may be suggested, while others can increase bruising. We will advise based on your health and medications.

  • Which areas hurt most?

Areas where skin lies close to bone, such as the jawline, chin, temples and forehead, usually feel strongest. Fuller areas like the cheeks tend to be more comfortable.

  • Does the pain mean it is working?

Not necessarily. Effective treatment depends on correct depth and energy, not on how much it hurts. We aim for settings that are both effective and tolerable.
