Why see a dermatologist for skin conditions?

Many skin problems look similar to an untrained eye. A rash may be eczema, fungal infection or contact allergy; a brown spot may be a harmless seborrheic keratosis or something that needs closer examination. Board-certified dermatologists are trained to distinguish these and to know when a test, biopsy or referral is needed.

At The Heal, medical concerns are assessed with the same care as cosmetic ones, and advice is conservative and evidence-based. The services listed here are general; please confirm your specific needs with the clinic before booking.

Eczema and dermatitis

Eczema (atopic dermatitis) and other forms of dermatitis cause dry, itchy, inflamed skin that can flare with weather, stress, products or allergens. Management usually combines barrier-repair skincare, anti-inflammatory treatment where appropriate and identifying triggers. Travel, climate change and new products can all trigger flares, which is a common reason visitors seek care in Seoul. Long-standing or severe eczema may need ongoing care with your doctor at home, and we can provide a summary to take back with you.

Moles and skin growths

Most moles and growths are harmless, but any lesion that is new, changing, bleeding or irregular in shape or color should be examined. The dermatologist decides whether removal is appropriate and which method suits it, and whether a biopsy is needed before any cosmetic removal. Removal is usually quick and done under local anesthetic or numbing cream, and the treated area is protected with dressings while it heals.

What to expect and how to prepare

Bring a list of your current medications, previous treatments and photos of how the problem has changed over time. For removals, small wounds may need dressings and a few days to a couple of weeks to heal, so plan around swimming, sun exposure and flights. Some lesions require monitoring rather than removal.

The Heal approach

We look at every lesion medically before thinking cosmetically, so nothing that needs attention is simply lasered away.

Frequently asked

Medical Dermatology: your questions answered

  • Can you check a mole that has changed?

Yes. Any mole that is new, growing, changing color or shape, itching or bleeding should be examined. The dermatologist will advise whether monitoring, biopsy or removal is appropriate, or whether referral is needed.

  • Is laser removal suitable for all moles?

No. Laser can suit small, clearly benign lesions, but suspicious moles should be assessed and may need excision with a biopsy. The doctor decides the method after examination.

  • Can eczema flare during travel?

Yes. Changes in climate, water, stress and new products can trigger flares. Bring your usual skincare and medications, and see a dermatologist if a flare does not settle with your normal routine.

  • How long do removal wounds take to heal?

It depends on size and method. Small laser removals often heal in about one to two weeks with dressings. Avoid swimming and strong sun on the area until healed.
