Mole Removal in Seoul: Assessment First, Then the Right Method
Quick answer
Safe mole removal starts with a dermatologist's examination to confirm the mole is benign, then choosing between laser removal for small, flat moles and surgical excision for larger, deeper or suspicious ones that need a biopsy. At The Heal in Jamsil, Seoul, a board-certified dermatologist assesses every mole before treatment. Most small moles heal in one to two weeks. Send a close-up photo for a first opinion.

Always before removal
Why every mole is assessed first
Most moles are harmless, but a small number can be skin cancer, including melanoma. Lasering a mole destroys the tissue, so it cannot be examined afterward. That is why a dermatologist always looks at a mole carefully, often with a dermatoscope, before deciding how to remove it.
Warning signs that need closer evaluation are often summarized as the ABCDE features:
- A symmetry
- Irregular B order
- Multiple or changing C olors
- Large D iameter
- E volving size, shape or color, or bleeding and itching
Any mole with these features is not lasered. It is removed surgically and sent for biopsy, or referred for further care.
Laser removal or excision?
The method depends on the mole's size, depth, location and appearance:
- Laser removal: suitable for small, flat or slightly raised moles that look clearly benign. A CO2 laser such as our Enpulse vaporizes the mole layer by layer with precise control. It usually leaves a small, shallow wound.
- Surgical excision: preferred for larger or deeper moles, and essential when a mole looks suspicious, because the tissue can be sent to a laboratory. It may require a few small stitches.
Deeper moles removed by laser can occasionally regrow and need a second session. The doctor explains which method suits each mole and why.
When is a biopsy needed?
A biopsy means sending removed tissue to a pathology laboratory to confirm what it is. It is recommended when a mole has any ABCDE warning sign, has changed recently, looks different from your other moles (sometimes called the ugly duckling sign), bleeds without injury, or when the diagnosis is uncertain.
Results typically take a little time to come back from the laboratory, so if you are traveling, the doctor will explain how you will receive the result and what to do next. If a lesion is concerning, the doctor may recommend removal and follow-up with your home doctor or referral to a hospital. Patient safety always comes before cosmetic goals.
Healing and scar care
After laser removal, the small wound is covered with a hydrocolloid patch or ointment. It usually forms a thin crust that falls off in about one to two weeks, leaving pink new skin that fades over several weeks to months. After excision with stitches, the stitches are removed after roughly one to two weeks depending on the location.
Keep the area clean and moist, avoid picking, and use sunscreen strictly for several months, because sun exposure can darken the healing skin. Some people develop a small dent, pale or darker spot, especially after deeper removals; the doctor explains these risks beforehand. Results vary between individuals.
Mole removal on a trip to Seoul
Small moles can usually be assessed and removed in one visit, so mole removal fits well into a trip. You can fly with a small patch on, but it is best to schedule removal early in your stay so the doctor can check healing if needed. Excision with stitches needs a plan for stitch removal, either in Seoul or with a doctor at home.
If many moles are being treated, or a biopsy is needed, the doctor will discuss timing with you. To start, send us clear photos and your dates . Related flat brown spots may be treated differently; see seborrheic keratosis removal and freckles and sunspot removal .
The Heal approach
We never laser a mole we have not examined: the dermatologist decides between laser and excision mole by mole, with biopsy whenever there is any doubt.

Frequently asked
Mole Removal: your questions answered
Does mole removal hurt?
A small local anesthetic injection or numbing cream is used, so most people feel only a brief sting at the start. Tenderness afterward is usually mild and settles within a day or two.
Will my mole come back after laser removal?
Most small, shallow moles do not return, but deeper moles can occasionally regrow because some cells remain. If that happens, a second session or excision may be recommended.
Will mole removal leave a scar?
Any removal leaves some mark, but small laser removals often heal as a faint spot. Larger moles and excisions may leave a fine line. Careful aftercare and sun protection help the scar fade.
Can I remove several moles in one visit?
Often yes, if they are small and clearly benign. The doctor may limit the number per session for comfort and healing, especially on the face. Larger or suspicious moles are planned separately.
