CO2 Fractional Laser in Seoul for Scars and Texture

Quick answer

A CO2 fractional laser resurfaces the skin by creating thousands of microscopic treatment columns that trigger strong collagen renewal, making it one of the most effective options for acne scars and rough texture. At The Heal in Jamsil, Seoul, we use Enpulse (ultra-pulse) and Upulse (fractional) CO2 lasers. Plan for about five to seven days of recovery. Share your travel dates with us so we can time treatment safely.

How fractional CO2 resurfacing works

The carbon dioxide laser emits a 10,600 nm wavelength that is absorbed by water in the skin. In fractional mode, the beam is split into a grid of tiny columns that vaporize microscopic channels through the epidermis into the dermis, while the skin between them stays intact. That untouched tissue speeds healing, and the controlled injury prompts the body to rebuild collagen and resurface the top layer.

Because CO2 removes tissue (it is ablative ), it produces more change per session than non-ablative lasers or RF microneedling, but it also needs more recovery. That trade-off is why the doctor matches depth and density carefully to your skin and schedule.

Enpulse and Upulse: two CO2 tools

The Heal uses two CO2 systems so the treatment can be tailored:

  • Enpulse (ultra-pulse CO2): delivers very short, high-peak pulses that vaporize tissue precisely with less surrounding heat. It is useful for focused work on scar edges and for removing small skin growths.
  • Upulse (fractional CO2): spreads energy in a fractional pattern for broader resurfacing of scarred or textured areas.

Within our Scar Renewal Technique , CO2 is often combined with subcision or RF microneedling so different scar types are treated in the same plan. The doctor decides which system, depth and density to use for each zone, and settings are often lighter around the eyes and jawline where skin is thinner.

Who is a good candidate?

Fractional CO2 suits adults with atrophic acne scars, surgical or injury scars, enlarged pores with rough texture, or fine lines who can accept around a week of visible healing. It works best once active acne is under control.

It is not recommended during pregnancy, with an active infection or cold sores in the area, with recent oral isotretinoin use, or if you form keloid scars. Medium to darker skin tones carry a higher risk of temporary darkening (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation), so settings are more conservative and pre- and post-care is especially important. Our lasers for darker skin FAQ explains this in more detail.

Recovery: what the first week looks like

After numbing and treatment, skin feels hot and looks red, like a sunburn. Over days two to four, fine crusts or bronzing form and swelling peaks, then gradually settles. Most people see pink, renewed skin by about day five to seven, with residual redness fading over the following weeks.

You will receive a recovery cream and instructions to keep the skin moist. Avoid picking crusts, makeup until the surface has healed, saunas, swimming and direct sun. Strict sunscreen use for several months reduces the risk of pigmentation. Results continue to improve for one to three months as collagen remodels, and results vary between individuals.

Timing CO2 laser around your trip

The main concern for international visitors is downtime before a flight. Flying with healing skin is not dangerous, but cabin air is dry and the surface is still fragile, so we strongly prefer that you stay in Seoul for at least five to seven days after CO2. That way the doctor can check healing before you leave.

If your stay is shorter, RF microneedling may be a safer first step, with CO2 planned for a longer visit. Read more about flying after treatment , and send us your dates so we can recommend the right sequence.

The Heal approach

We use CO2 where its extra power is truly needed, choosing Enpulse for precision and Upulse for broad resurfacing, and we time sessions so you heal before you fly.

Frequently asked

CO2 Fractional Laser: your questions answered

  • How painful is CO2 fractional laser?

Numbing cream is applied beforehand, and most people describe a hot, prickling sensation during treatment. Skin feels like a strong sunburn for the first evening, then becomes more comfortable as it heals.

  • Can I wear makeup after CO2 laser?

Wait until the surface has fully healed and crusts have shed, usually about five to seven days. Applying makeup earlier can irritate the skin and increase infection risk.

  • How many CO2 sessions are needed for acne scars?

Some people see clear improvement after one session, but moderate to deep scars usually need two or three, spaced one to two months apart, often combined with other methods.

  • Will CO2 laser darken my skin?

Temporary darkening can occur, especially in medium to darker skin tones. Conservative settings, careful aftercare and strict sun protection lower the risk, and most pigmentation fades with time and treatment.
