What is Onda lifting?
Onda is an energy-based platform from the Italian manufacturer DEKA. Instead of ultrasound or radiofrequency, it uses Coolwaves , a microwave energy designed to travel through the skin and concentrate in the fat layer beneath it. A built-in cooling system protects the surface while the deeper tissue warms. On the face, a smaller handpiece is used to target localized fullness rather than overall laxity. That makes Onda a contouring tool first and a tightening tool second, which is why it is often paired with other lifting devices in the same plan.
Which areas does it treat?
Facial Onda is most useful where soft fat, rather than bone or muscle, makes the lower face look heavy. During your consultation we pinch-test and photograph each zone to see how much of the fullness is fat that energy can reach:
- Under the chin: a mild double chin that persists despite a healthy weight
- Jowl pads: fullness that blurs the jawline
- Lower cheeks: roundness that makes the face look wider
If heaviness comes mainly from loose skin rather than fat, Dr. Yang may recommend a lift such as Ultherapy Prime instead, or a combination of the two. Very thin faces are usually poor candidates, because removing fat there can make hollows more obvious.
Who is a good candidate?
Onda suits adults with small, pinchable fat pockets and reasonable skin elasticity who want a slimmer contour without injections or surgery. It is not a weight-loss treatment and works best on stable body weight. We avoid treatment during pregnancy, over active skin infection or inflammation, and in areas with metal implants or certain electronic devices. Tell us about any fillers or thread lifts in the lower face, since timing and settings may need to be adjusted. A face-to-face assessment matters because fat, muscle and skin laxity can look similar in photos.
What does treatment feel like?
Before treatment we cleanse the skin, mark the zones and apply a coupling gel. Most people describe a building warmth with brief hot spots, balanced by the cooling tip. No anaesthetic injections are needed, and energy is adjusted in real time if any spot feels too hot. Afterward the area may look pink and feel tender or slightly swollen for a few days, and the skin can feel numb or tingly in patches. Most patients return to work or sightseeing the same day. Is Onda lifting permanent?
Fat cells affected by treatment are cleared by the body over several weeks, but remaining fat can still change with weight gain and ageing. Many patients maintain results with healthy habits and an occasional lifting session.
How many Onda sessions will I need?
Some people see a visible change after one session, while others benefit from a second or third spaced several weeks apart. Dr. Yang recommends a number after assessing your fat thickness and skin quality.
Can Onda be done on a short trip to Seoul?
Yes. There is no wound, so you can usually fly within a day or two. Because results develop over weeks, you will notice the main change after you return home.
Is Onda the same as Onda body contouring?
It is the same platform with different handpieces and settings. Facial treatment uses a smaller applicator for precise areas, while body treatment covers larger zones such as the abdomen and flanks.
