Lifting & Tightening

Double Chin Reduction in Seoul Without Surgery

Quick answer

A double chin can usually be reduced without surgery by combining Onda microwave treatment to reduce under-chin fat with ultrasound lifting such as Ultherapy to tighten the loose skin and support beneath it. At The Heal in Jamsil, Seoul, a dermatologist first checks whether fat, laxity or both cause the fullness. Results build over weeks and vary. Send a side photo with your head level for an initial assessment.

What causes a double chin?

Fullness under the chin, called submental fullness, has several possible causes. The most common is a pad of fat that persists even at a healthy weight, often influenced by genetics. With age, the skin and the supporting layer beneath the jaw loosen, letting tissue drop forward. A short or retruded chin can also make the area look fuller, as can posture. Because each cause needs a different approach, the first step is a careful examination. Gently pinching the area, looking with your head tilted, and checking chin projection all help to separate fat from laxity.

Onda: reducing under-chin fat

Onda delivers microwave energy that concentrates in the fat layer while a cooled tip protects the skin. Some treated fat cells are cleared by the body over the following weeks, and the heat may also firm the overlying tissue. Most people need one to three sessions. The treatment feels warm with brief hot spots and requires no injections or incisions. Afterward, mild redness, swelling, tenderness or temporary numbness under the chin is common and generally settles within days, so it fits easily into a trip to Seoul.

Lifting the skin and support beneath the jaw

When loose skin contributes to the double chin, reducing fat alone may leave the area soft. Focused ultrasound such as Ultherapy Prime treats the deeper support under the jaw and upper neck, encouraging collagen to tighten the contour over two to three months. Radiofrequency can further firm the skin surface. Combining fat reduction with lifting is often the most effective non-surgical strategy, particularly from the late 30s onward, and can be done in the same visit. The doctor will show you how much of the change is expected from each part of the plan.

Other options that may be discussed

Fat-dissolving injections are used for submental fat in some settings. Whether they are suitable for you, and available at our clinic at the time of your visit, may be discussed during your consultation. If a weak chin is part of the picture, chin filler can improve the jaw-to-neck angle. We do not recommend fat reduction during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over active infection, or in very slim people where hollowing could result. Very heavy skin excess may be better addressed surgically, and we will tell you honestly if that is the case.

Timeline and planning your visit

Visible change typically appears from about four weeks and continues to around three months. Because treatments are low-downtime, you can usually fly within a day or two; slight swelling under the chin is easy to hide. Keeping a stable weight helps maintain results. If you would like a plan before you arrive, share your profile photos with us and we will suggest whether Onda, lifting or a combination is the better starting point. Outcomes vary. Progress photos taken at home every few weeks help you track the change.

The Heal approach

We confirm whether your double chin is fat, laxity or chin shape before treating, so energy goes only where it will make a visible difference.

Frequently asked

Double Chin Reduction: your questions answered

  • Is double chin reduction permanent?

Fat cells cleared after Onda do not return, but remaining fat can grow with weight gain, and skin continues to age. Many patients keep results with a stable weight and occasional lifting maintenance.

  • How many sessions will I need?

Many people see change after one Onda session, while thicker fat may need two or three spaced several weeks apart. Lifting is usually a single session repeated about yearly. We review progress by photo after you return home.

  • Does it hurt?

Most patients describe deep warmth rather than pain. Cooling and adjustable energy keep it comfortable, and no injections or anaesthetic are required for Onda or Ultherapy. Most people find it easy to tolerate.

  • Can young people with a double chin be treated?

Yes. In younger patients the cause is usually fat rather than laxity, so Onda alone may be enough. We check chin projection too, since a short chin can mimic fullness. Results vary between individuals.
