FAQ
How Long Is Ultherapy Recovery? Answers From a Seoul Dermatologist
Quick answer
Ultherapy has little to no downtime: most people return to normal activities, makeup and travel the same or next day. Mild redness fades within hours, while swelling, tingling or tenderness can last a few days to a couple of weeks. At The Heal in Jamsil, Seoul, we plan treatment around your flights. What to expect in the first 24 hours
Right after Ultherapy Prime , skin may look slightly flushed and feel warm or tight. This usually settles within a few hours. Some people notice mild swelling, particularly under the chin or along the jawline, the next morning. There is no wound, peeling or dressing, so you can wash your face gently and apply light makeup once redness has calmed. Most patients go straight back to their hotel, out for dinner or on to sightseeing.
Because recovery is so short, many international patients schedule Ultherapy early in their stay and continue with their plans the same evening.
The first two weeks
Over the following days, some people feel tenderness when touching treated areas, a sensation similar to a mild bruise or muscle ache, especially along the jaw. Occasional tingling, small bruises or temporary numb patches can occur and normally resolve on their own within days to a few weeks. These are expected, temporary effects. Contact us if pain increases rather than settles, or if you notice anything unusual. Our lifting side effects FAQ covers the full range.
Gentle cold compresses and keeping your head raised at night can make tenderness more comfortable during this time.
Aftercare tips that help
- Use a gentle cleanser and plain moisturizer for a few days.
- Apply sunscreen daily; it protects your skin and your results.
- Avoid saunas, very hot baths and intense workouts for about 48 hours.
- Go easy on alcohol for a day or two to limit swelling.
- Sleep with your head slightly elevated if you notice puffiness.
You can fly the next day; see flying after treatment .
These steps also help if you are combining Ultherapy with other treatments on the same trip.
When will I see results?
Some patients notice a subtle firming straight away, but the real lift comes from new collagen, which builds gradually over two to three months and can continue improving for several months after that. Results vary with age, skin thickness and laxity. Many patients combine Ultherapy with Thermage FLX for surface tightening. To plan recovery around your trip, send us your travel dates and photos .
Taking photos before treatment helps you notice the gradual change over the following months.
The Heal approach
We schedule Ultherapy early in your stay and check in by message afterward, so any tenderness settles while you are still in Seoul.

Frequently asked
Related questions
Can I wear makeup after Ultherapy?
Usually yes. Once any redness settles, typically within hours, you can apply light makeup. Use clean brushes and gentle products, and avoid heavy scrubbing when you remove it.
Can I exercise after Ultherapy?
Light walking is fine. We suggest waiting about 48 hours before intense workouts, hot yoga or saunas, as heat and exertion can increase swelling and tenderness.
Is numbness after Ultherapy normal?
Small areas of temporary numbness or tingling can occur and usually fade within days to a few weeks. Tell us if it persists or worsens so we can advise.
Does Ultherapy recovery differ with Thermage combined?
Combining both on the same day may make skin feel a little warmer and more tender for a day or two, but overall downtime stays minimal for most people.
