FAQ

Ultherapy vs Thermage in Seoul: Which Is Right for Me?

Quick answer

Ultherapy lifts from deeper layers, including the SMAS, so it suits sagging jowls, brows and the jawline. Thermage FLX uses radiofrequency to tighten the skin surface, improving texture, fine lines and crepiness. Many people benefit from both. At The Heal in Jamsil, Seoul, a dermatologist matches the device to your face. Send photos on KakaoTalk for a plan before you fly.

How each one works

Ultherapy Prime uses micro-focused ultrasound to create tiny heat points at set depths, reaching the SMAS, the supportive layer tightened in surgical facelifts. Real-time imaging guides placement. Thermage FLX uses monopolar radiofrequency to heat the dermis more broadly, contracting existing collagen and stimulating new collagen across the skin surface. In short, Ultherapy focuses on lifting structure, while Thermage focuses on tightening and smoothing the skin itself.

Both are well-established, widely used devices, and both rely on stimulating your own collagen rather than adding anything to the skin.

Which suits my concern?

  • Jowls, a softening jawline, lowered brows: Ultherapy is usually first choice.
  • Crepey skin, fine lines, loose texture: Thermage FLX often fits better.
  • Hooded upper eyelids: Thermage FLX with an eye tip is an option.
  • Both sagging and loose skin: a combination is common.

Facial fat, skin thickness and age also matter, which is why we examine you before recommending either.

Your consultation will look at how your face moves, where volume sits and how thick your skin is, since those factors decide which device will make the most visible difference.

Combining both in one visit

Because they work at different depths, Ultherapy and Thermage complement each other and can usually be done on the same day, which is convenient for visitors with limited time. Our Ultherapy + Thermage combination page explains order and recovery, and our Design Lift program shows how we map each device to your face.

Combining them is not essential for everyone; for some patients one device alone gives the most natural result, and we will say so.

Comfort, downtime and results

Both have minimal downtime: mild redness or tenderness, and makeup is usually fine the next day. Ultherapy feels like brief deep heat pulses; Thermage like surface warmth with cooling. Results from both build gradually over two to three months and typically last around a year or more, varying by person. Not sure which you need? Send us photos for a personalized recommendation .

Both treatments are planned around your flights, since neither leaves a wound.

The Heal approach

Rather than offering one device to everyone, Dr. Yang looks at where your laxity sits and chooses Ultherapy, Thermage or both accordingly.

Frequently asked

Related questions about Ultherapy and Thermage

  • Which lasts longer, Ultherapy or Thermage?

Both commonly last around a year or longer, depending on age, skin quality and lifestyle. Neither stops aging, so many patients plan yearly maintenance.

  • Can I do Thermage first and Ultherapy later?

Yes. They can be done on the same day or in separate visits. The order and spacing depend on your goals and travel schedule; the doctor will suggest what fits.

  • Is one better for younger patients?

For early laxity in the 30s, either may be used, often at gentler settings. Fine texture concerns tend to suit Thermage, while early jowling suits Ultherapy.

  • Can I fly after either treatment?

Yes. Neither leaves a wound, so flying the next day is generally fine. Mild swelling may last a few days.
