What makes skin sensitive?

Sensitive skin is a common description rather than a single diagnosis. People with sensitive skin often notice stinging, burning, itching, redness or tightness in response to products, weather, heat or treatments. Underlying factors can include:

  • A thin or weakened skin barrier
  • Rosacea or a tendency to flush
  • Eczema, allergies or contact dermatitis
  • Previous over-treatment with acids, retinoids or lasers

Identifying the cause helps the doctor choose the right approach. Our sensitive skin concern page explains these patterns in more detail. Knowing your history of reactions is just as useful as examining your skin on the day, so share anything that has bothered your skin before.

How our low-irritation protocols work

For sensitive patients, we adjust the details that usually cause discomfort:

  • Gentle preparation: mild cleansing and fragrance-free products throughout the visit
  • Numbing and cooling: chosen and timed to avoid stinging
  • Conservative energy: lower starting settings for lasers and RF, increased only if your skin tolerates them
  • Test areas: used when there is doubt about how your skin will react
  • Calming finish: treatments such as LDM and soothing masks after procedures

This approach lets many sensitive patients have treatments they previously avoided, from toning to lifting. Each visit builds on what your skin tolerated last time.

Treatments often included

A sensitive skin program is usually built from gentle building blocks. Depending on your goals, it may include LDM for calming and hydration, barrier recovery care, Vbeam for redness, gentle laser toning for uneven tone, and carefully selected skin boosters for skin quality.

If you also want lifting or texture treatments, the doctor will choose devices and settings that suit reactive skin and allow adequate recovery between sessions. The goal is steady improvement without flare-ups, rather than the strongest possible treatment in one visit. Results vary from person to person. Progress is reviewed at every visit.

Who is a good candidate?

The program suits anyone whose skin reacts easily, including people with rosacea, eczema-prone or allergy-prone skin, and those who have had irritation after previous treatments. It is also helpful before major events or trips when you cannot risk a flare.

Tell the doctor about known allergies, including to anesthetics, adhesives or skincare ingredients. Active eczema, infection or significant irritation is treated first. Some treatments are adjusted or postponed during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If a reaction is severe or unusual, the doctor may recommend patch testing or further medical evaluation. Your comfort guides the pace.

Sensitive skin and travel

Travel adds stress to reactive skin: dry cabin air, new water, different climates and unfamiliar products. We usually recommend starting with calming care early in your trip and scheduling any stronger treatments afterward, so you leave Seoul with skin that feels comfortable.

Most program steps have no downtime, so flying the next day is fine. Bring your regular skincare or photos of it, so the doctor can advise what to use after treatment. To plan your visit, send us your questions and dates ; we reply in English.

The Heal approach

We adapt every step for reactive skin, from cleansing to energy settings, so sensitive patients can access the treatments they want without paying for it with a flare.

Frequently asked

Sensitive Skin Care Program: your questions answered

  • Can people with sensitive skin get laser treatments?

Often yes. With conservative settings, careful cooling and calming aftercare, many people with sensitive skin tolerate lasers well. The doctor may start with a test area or a gentler device.

  • What should I tell the doctor about my sensitive skin?

Share products or treatments that caused reactions, any allergies, and conditions such as rosacea or eczema. Photos of past reactions are helpful. This lets the doctor adjust the plan from the start.

  • Is sensitive skin the same as allergic skin?

Not always. Sensitive skin often reflects a weak barrier or rosacea, while allergies involve the immune system reacting to specific ingredients. Patch testing can help identify true allergies.

  • How soon will my skin feel less reactive?

Many people notice calmer skin within a few weeks of a gentle routine and calming treatments. Building long-term resilience usually takes one to three months. Consistency matters more than intensity.
