FAQ

Will Vbeam Cause Bruising? Redness Treatment in Seoul

Quick answer

Vbeam usually does not cause bruising at the gentle, non-purpuric settings most often used for facial redness and rosacea; expect mild redness and swelling for a few hours to a day. Stronger settings for certain vessels or marks can cause purple bruising lasting 1 to 2 weeks. At The Heal in Jamsil, Seoul, we discuss this first. Ask on KakaoTalk which settings suit your trip.

Why can Vbeam bruise?

Vbeam Perfecta is a pulsed dye laser that targets the red pigment in blood vessels. When energy is delivered in a very short pulse, small vessels can break up, causing a purple discoloration called purpura. This can be useful for some stubborn vessels or vascular lesions, but it looks like a bruise.

Using longer pulses and gentler energy heats vessels more gradually, which usually avoids purpura while still reducing redness. Learn more on our Vbeam Perfecta page.

What to expect after non-bruising Vbeam

  • Mild redness and warmth, often settling within hours
  • Slight puffiness, especially under the eyes, for a day or two
  • Occasional small spots of bruising in sensitive areas

Most people return to normal activities the same day and can wear makeup the next day. For rosacea or diffuse redness, a series of 3 to 5 sessions spaced about 3 to 4 weeks apart is common. See rosacea .

When might bruising settings be chosen?

Purpuric settings are sometimes chosen for thicker vessels, certain birthmarks, or when faster results justify more downtime. We only use them after you agree, and we time them so bruising will not clash with travel photos or events.

If bruising happens, it typically fades over 7 to 14 days. Makeup can cover it once the skin is intact. For other options for redness, see facial redness treatment .

How to reduce bruising risk

Tell us about blood thinners, aspirin, fish oil, vitamin E or ginkgo, which can increase bruising; do not stop prescribed medication without your doctor's advice. Avoid alcohol, hot baths and intense exercise for a day or two afterward, and keep skin cool.

Sun-tanned skin raises the risk of side effects, so protect your skin before and after. Read alcohol and exercise after treatment .

Have photos or events coming up? Book a Vbeam consultation and we will choose non-bruising settings where possible.
