Clear Skin in Seoul: Control Breakouts, Fade Marks

Quick answer

Clear skin means few or no active breakouts, faded post-acne marks and smoother texture. A dermatologist reaches it in order: first controlling active acne with medical and in-clinic treatment, then fading red and brown marks, then improving any scars. At The Heal in Jamsil, Seoul, each phase is tailored to your skin and acne type. Improvement often starts within weeks; results vary. Book an English consultation to start your plan.

What clear skin means for you

Clear skin looks different at each stage of an acne journey. For some people it means stopping painful breakouts; for others it means removing the marks that remain long after the spots have healed. A dermatologist separates three layers:

  • Active acne: blackheads, whiteheads, red spots and cysts; see active acne and adult acne
  • Post-acne marks: flat red or brown discoloration; see post-acne marks
  • Acne scars: changes in skin texture

Treating them in the right order matters. Lasers for marks work best once new breakouts are under control.

The doctor assesses all three at your first visit.

Your plan in three phases

  1. Phase 1 – Control breakouts (weeks 0–8): acne treatment combining prescription skincare or medication with in-clinic care such as extraction and anti-inflammatory treatment.
  2. Phase 2 – Fade marks (from week 4): post-acne marks treatment with Vbeam for red marks and toning for brown marks.
  3. Phase 3 – Refine texture (when stable): Potenza or acne scar treatment for early textural changes.

Many patients need only the first two phases. The doctor reviews progress at each visit before moving on.

Standardized progress photos help track how your skin is responding over time.

Combinations that speed up results

Acne responds best to a combined approach rather than one treatment. Typical pairings include medical skincare plus regular in-clinic care for active breakouts, Vbeam plus toning when both red and brown marks are present, and skin Botox for oily skin that keeps clogging pores. If oiliness is a major trigger, see our oily skin page.

Some oral acne medications, such as isotretinoin, are effective but have important precautions, including strict avoidance of pregnancy and delays before certain procedures. The doctor will explain whether they suit you and how they affect the timing of lasers.

Maintenance and daily care

Keeping skin clear is mostly about consistency:

  • Use a gentle cleanser twice daily and avoid scrubbing
  • Continue the prescribed topical routine even when skin looks clear
  • Choose non-comedogenic moisturizer, sunscreen and makeup
  • Do not pick or squeeze spots, which creates new marks
  • Change pillowcases often and keep phone screens clean

Many people need occasional maintenance visits, especially around hormonal changes or stressful periods. Results vary between individuals, and adult acne can flare again, so a long-term plan is more effective than a one-off fix.

Stress, sleep and diet can also play a role.

Can I treat acne on a short trip?

Yes, a first visit is valuable even on a short stay. The doctor can diagnose your acne type, start prescription treatment and perform in-clinic care, and most of these have little downtime. Mark-fading lasers usually leave only mild redness. Ongoing medication needs follow-up, so we provide a written plan in English for your home doctor. See follow-up care after you return home , then start your clear-skin consultation and share photos of your skin.

Your doctor can also suggest which mark-fading treatments are realistic before you fly, and our team replies to messages in English.

The Heal approach

We clear skin in the right order: calm active acne first, then fade marks, then refine texture, so every treatment works on stable skin.

Frequently asked

Clear Skin: your questions answered

  • How long does it take to get clear skin?

Many people see fewer breakouts within four to eight weeks of starting treatment. Fading marks and improving texture take longer, often two to three months or more. Results vary with acne type and consistency.

  • Should I treat acne marks while still breaking out?

It is usually better to control active acne first. Some gentle mark treatments can begin alongside, but stronger lasers work best once new breakouts have slowed down. The doctor will advise on timing.

  • Is adult acne treated differently?

Adult acne is often linked to hormones, stress and skincare habits, and tends to appear around the jaw. Treatment may focus more on hormonal patterns and barrier-friendly products. Results vary between individuals.

  • Can I get acne medication as a visitor?

Yes, the doctor can prescribe appropriate treatment after examining you. For ongoing oral medication, we provide a written plan so your home doctor can continue monitoring. This supports safe continuity of care.
