Volume & Contouring

Sculptra in Seoul: Gradual Collagen-Building Volume

Quick answer

Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) injectable that stimulates your own collagen to restore volume gradually, rather than filling immediately like hyaluronic acid. Most people need two to three sessions about four to six weeks apart, and results can last around two years. At The Heal in Jamsil, Seoul, a dermatologist plans sessions around your travel schedule. Message us your dates and we will suggest a realistic plan.

How does Sculptra work?

Sculptra contains microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible material that the body slowly breaks down. Once injected into the deeper layers of the skin, the particles trigger a controlled response in which your own fibroblasts produce new collagen. Volume therefore builds gradually over weeks to months, rather than appearing on the day. Any initial fullness from the water used to dilute the product fades within days. The result is a soft, natural restoration of lost volume and improved skin firmness, often described as looking like yourself a few years earlier.

Who is Sculptra best for?

Sculptra suits adults with gradual, overall volume loss, for example hollowing in the temples or cheeks, a deflated midface, or thinning skin, who prefer subtle, progressive change. It is particularly useful for loss of facial volume across larger areas. It is not the right tool for precise contouring like lips or under-eyes. We avoid it during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active skin infection, a tendency to keloid scarring, or certain autoimmune conditions. Compared with HA fillers , Sculptra cannot be dissolved, so careful planning is essential.

Sessions and timeline

A typical course is two to three sessions spaced around four to six weeks apart, though the number depends on how much volume you have lost and how your skin responds. Visible improvement builds over two to three months after each session, with the full effect often seen several months after the last one. Our FAQ explains how long Sculptra takes to work . For international visitors, this can be planned across repeat trips to Seoul, or combined with immediate-effect treatments on the first visit. Results vary, and patience is part of the process.

Treatment day and aftercare

After cleansing and numbing, Sculptra is injected with a needle or cannula into the planned areas. Mild swelling, tenderness and small bruises are common and usually settle in one to three days. The traditional 5-5-5 rule asks you to massage the treated areas five minutes, five times a day, for five days to distribute the product evenly; we will give you specific written instructions. Avoid saunas and intense exercise for 24 to 48 hours. Most visitors return to sightseeing the same day and can fly within a day or two.

Combining Sculptra with lifting

Sculptra replaces lost volume, while devices such as Ultherapy Prime or Thermage lift and tighten. Many patients benefit from both, as volume loss and laxity usually progress together. Energy treatments are typically performed before injectables or on a different day. In our Design Lift program , Sculptra may be added for gradual, long-lasting support. If you would like a plan across your visits, get in touch with your travel dates . Follow-up between sessions can be done by message, so you only need to visit in person for treatment.

The Heal approach

We use Sculptra for broad, gradual volume restoration and keep HA filler for areas that need precision.

Frequently asked

Sculptra: your questions answered

  • How long does Sculptra last?

Results can last around two years after a completed course, as the new collagen is your own. Some people choose a top-up session every year or two to maintain the effect.

  • Why do I need more than one session?

Sculptra works by stimulating collagen gradually. Spreading the product over two or three sessions builds volume safely and naturally, and lets us assess your response before adding more. The interval also lets swelling settle between sessions.

  • Can Sculptra cause lumps?

Small nodules can occur, especially if the product is placed too superficially or not massaged as advised. Correct dilution, depth and aftercare reduce this risk significantly. We give you written aftercare in English.

  • Is Sculptra better than filler?

Neither is better overall. HA filler gives immediate, reversible shaping, while Sculptra gives gradual, longer-lasting volume. Many plans use both for different areas. We will recommend what fits your goals and timeline.
