Dermal Fillers in Seoul: Natural Volume with Hyaluronic Acid
Quick answer
Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid (HA) gels injected to restore lost volume and refine contours in areas such as the cheeks, temples, nasolabial folds and chin. At The Heal in Jamsil, Seoul, a board-certified dermatologist places filler conservatively for a natural result. HA fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed. Swelling usually settles within days. Send photos and travel dates so we can time treatment before your flight.

What are hyaluronic acid fillers?
Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule naturally found in skin, where it binds water and supports volume. HA fillers use a stabilized form of this molecule in gels of different thickness. Softer gels suit fine areas such as lips or under-eyes, while firmer gels support structure on the cheekbones and chin. Results are visible immediately and settle over about two weeks. Depending on the product and area, they typically last six to eighteen months as the body gradually breaks the gel down. Dr. Yang selects the gel for each area rather than using one product everywhere.
Common treatment areas
- Cheeks and midface: restoring lift and support lost with age; see hollow cheeks .
- Temples: softening a hollow, aged upper face; see flat temples .
- Nasolabial folds: softening deep smile lines, often by supporting the cheek first.
- Chin and profile: see chin filler .
- Lips and under-eyes: see lip filler and under-eye filler .
Rather than filling every line, Dr. Yang looks at how the face has changed overall and restores support where it was lost. Often a small amount in the cheek or temple softens folds elsewhere more naturally than treating the fold directly.
Safety and reversibility
Filler safety depends on product quality, anatomy knowledge and technique. We use approved HA products, map blood vessels and danger zones, and often use blunt cannulas in higher-risk areas. Common effects are swelling, tenderness and bruising. Rare but serious risks include vascular occlusion, where filler blocks a blood vessel; this requires immediate recognition and treatment, which is one reason filler should be performed by a doctor. A key advantage of HA is that it can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. Read more in are fillers safe?
Who should not have fillers?
We avoid filler during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over active skin infection, cold sores or acne at the injection site, and in people with known allergies to filler components or lidocaine. Some autoimmune conditions and blood-thinning medications need discussion. If you have had permanent or unknown fillers in the past, please tell us, since adding HA on top can complicate results. We also check whether lifting or a collagen stimulator such as Sculptra would serve your goals better. Please share your full medical history, including recent dental treatment or vaccinations.
Recovery and timing your trip
Mild swelling and possible bruising usually settle within one to three days, although lips and under-eyes can take longer. Avoid alcohol, saunas, strenuous exercise and facial massage for about 48 hours. Flying the next day is generally possible, but we recommend allowing two to three days in Seoul after treatment so we can check you if needed. If your schedule is tight, tell us your flight dates and we will plan around them, with follow-up by message once you are home. Results vary between individuals.
The Heal approach
We use filler to restore support, not to add bulk, and we often treat the cheek before chasing a fold.

Frequently asked
Dermal Fillers: your questions answered
How long do fillers last?
Most HA fillers last about six to eighteen months, depending on the product, area and your metabolism. Areas with more movement, such as lips, tend to break down sooner. We review your result at follow-up.
Can fillers be dissolved if I don't like them?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, usually within a day or two. This reversibility is one reason we prefer HA products. We hope you never need it.
Does filler injection hurt?
Most fillers contain lidocaine, and we apply numbing cream. You may feel pressure and brief stinging, but most patients find it very manageable. Ice afterward helps reduce swelling.
When can I fly after fillers?
Flying the next day is usually fine, but staying two to three days lets swelling settle and allows a check-up if anything needs attention. We will plan timing around your flights.
Will fillers look natural?
With conservative amounts placed in the right layers, fillers should look like refreshed volume rather than added bulk. We prefer to build gradually over sessions. Small top-ups are easier than corrections.
