Under-Eye Filler in Seoul: Softening Tear Trough Hollows
Quick answer
Under-eye filler places a small amount of soft hyaluronic acid gel in the tear trough to soften hollows and the shadow they cast, so the eyes look less tired. Not everyone is a good candidate: puffiness, bags or thin skin may need another approach. At The Heal in Jamsil, Seoul, a dermatologist checks this first. Send a well-lit, straight-ahead photo for an honest first opinion.

What is tear trough filler?
The tear trough is the groove that runs from the inner corner of the eye toward the cheek. With age, or because of genetics, the area can lose volume and support, creating a hollow that casts a shadow and makes you look tired even after rest. A very soft, low-swelling hyaluronic acid filler can be placed deep along this groove to smooth the transition between lower lid and cheek. Because the skin here is thin and the anatomy delicate, technique and product choice matter more than in almost any other area.
Are you a good candidate?
The best candidates have a visible hollow with relatively good skin quality and little puffiness. Under-eye filler is less suitable, or not suitable, when the main problem is:
- Bulging fat bags: filler can make them look larger.
- Fluid puffiness or swelling: HA attracts water and may worsen it.
- Pigment-based dark circles: see dark circles .
- Very thin, crepey skin: a booster such as Rejuran Eye may suit better.
We will tell you honestly if filler is not the right choice. A short in-person examination in different lighting confirms the cause.
Risks and how we reduce them
Possible effects include swelling, bruising, lumpiness and a bluish tint if filler is placed too superficially. Prolonged puffiness can occur in some people. Rarely, filler can compromise blood supply, which is why it must be done by a doctor who knows the anatomy and can act immediately. We use small volumes, soft products and often a blunt cannula, placing filler deep on the bone rather than just under the skin. Because HA can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, problems can usually be corrected. We avoid treatment during pregnancy, with active infection or with known allergies to the components.
Recovery and travel
Expect mild swelling and possibly a small bruise for several days. Sleep with your head slightly raised for a couple of nights, apply cool compresses gently, and avoid alcohol, saunas and rubbing your eyes. Most people return to normal activities the next day, and concealer can usually be applied after 24 hours. Flying is generally fine within a day or two, but we recommend allowing a few days in Seoul in case of any swelling. Before you book flights, send us your photos so we can plan sensible timing.
Alternatives and combinations
Many tired-looking eyes need more than filler. Cheek support can reduce the depth of a tear trough indirectly; skin boosters can thicken and smooth crepey lower-lid skin; energy devices can tighten laxity around the eyes. Pigmentation-related shadows respond better to brightening care. Dr. Yang often combines a small amount of filler with these approaches for a more natural result. The Heal approach
We are comfortable saying no to under-eye filler, because choosing the right candidate is the most important safety step.

Frequently asked
Under-Eye Filler: your questions answered
Is under-eye filler safe?
In suitable candidates, using soft HA filler, small volumes and careful technique, it is a well-established treatment. Risks exist, so it should be performed by an experienced doctor who can manage complications.
How long does tear trough filler last?
Because there is little movement in the area, results often last about nine to twelve months, and sometimes longer. Metabolism and product choice also affect longevity. We review results at follow-up.
Will under-eye filler remove my dark circles?
It can reduce shadows caused by hollowness, but it does not change pigment or visible blood vessels. We will explain which type of dark circle you have before recommending treatment. Treating the right cause matters more than the product.
What if I don't like the result?
Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Small adjustments are usually possible, which is one reason we prefer conservative amounts. A follow-up check lets us decide whether any small adjustment is needed.
