FAQ
Are Dermal Fillers Safe? A Dermatologist in Seoul Answers
Quick answer
Dermal fillers are generally safe when an approved product is injected by a trained doctor who knows facial anatomy. Mild swelling and bruising are common and short-lived; serious complications such as blocked blood vessels are rare but real. At The Heal in Jamsil, Seoul, a board-certified dermatologist plans every injection with safety first. Ask us your safety questions on KakaoTalk before you book.

What are the common side effects?
Most side effects are mild and temporary:
- Swelling, especially around the lips and under the eyes
- Bruising at injection points
- Tenderness, redness or small lumps that soften as the filler settles
These usually improve within a few days to two weeks. Planning around them is easy: avoid booking filler right before an important event. Our dermal fillers page covers what each area involves.
What are the rare but serious risks?
The most important rare risk is vascular occlusion , when filler blocks or compresses a blood vessel. Warning signs include unusual pain, skin turning pale or dusky, or vision changes, and it needs urgent treatment. Other uncommon problems include infection, delayed inflammatory nodules and allergic reactions.
These risks are why filler should be injected only by a doctor who knows high-risk zones such as the nose, glabella and temples, uses careful technique, and has emergency medication on hand.
How does The Heal reduce the risks?
- Examination of your face and medical history before any injection
- Approved, traceable products rather than unknown brands
- Conservative volumes and slow, controlled injection
- Hyaluronidase available on site to dissolve hyaluronic acid filler if needed
- Clear aftercare and a direct way to contact us

Who should not get fillers?
We postpone fillers during pregnancy and breastfeeding, over active skin infections or cold sores, and during acute illness. People with certain autoimmune conditions, a history of severe allergies, or unknown permanent filler in the area need extra caution. Let us know about blood thinners and supplements that increase bruising.

Frequently asked
Are dermal fillers safe? Related questions
Are fillers safer than surgery?
They carry different risks. Fillers avoid incisions and general anaesthesia, but they still have rare serious complications, so they should be treated as a medical procedure.
Is hyaluronic acid filler permanent?
No. Hyaluronic acid fillers are gradually broken down by the body, often over 6 to 18 months depending on product and area, and can be dissolved if needed.
Can I fly after getting filler?
Usually yes, even the next day. Swelling may feel slightly more noticeable on a long flight. Contact us right away if you notice unusual pain or skin color change.
Should I avoid permanent fillers?
Many dermatologists prefer temporary, dissolvable fillers because complications from permanent products are harder to treat.
