FAQ

Skin Treatments While Pregnant or Breastfeeding in Seoul

Quick answer

Most cosmetic treatments, including Botox, fillers, skin boosters, lasers and energy-based lifting, should be postponed during pregnancy and usually while breastfeeding, because safety has not been established. Medical skin problems can still be treated with pregnancy-appropriate options. At The Heal in Jamsil, Seoul, tell us if you are or may be pregnant before any treatment. Message us on KakaoTalk with any questions.

Case by case

Which treatments should be postponed?

  • Injectables: Botox, dermal fillers, Sculptra, Rejuran, Juvelook and Lituo.
  • Energy-based lifting: Ultherapy Prime, Thermage FLX, Sofwave, Titanium, Onda and Alltite.
  • Lasers and resurfacing: CO2, pico, toning and RF microneedling, partly because pregnancy hormones raise pigmentation risk.
  • Strong topicals: retinoids and some peels.

This is a precaution: these treatments have not been studied enough in pregnancy, and cosmetic goals can safely wait.

What can usually still be done?

Medical skin concerns don't need to be ignored. Depending on your situation, a dermatologist may manage acne, eczema, irritation or infections with options considered appropriate in pregnancy. Gentle skincare, moisturizers and mineral sunscreen are generally fine.

See our medical dermatology and eczema and dermatitis care pages. Always tell any doctor you are pregnant.

Melasma and pigmentation in pregnancy

Melasma often appears or darkens during pregnancy. Strict sun protection, hats and gentle skincare help most at this stage. Many cases fade partly after delivery, so we usually wait until after pregnancy and breastfeeding to start laser treatment.

After pregnancy: when can I restart?

Many energy-based and laser treatments can be considered once you have recovered from delivery, and injectables are often resumed after breastfeeding ends. Timing depends on your health, delivery and whether you are nursing, so we decide individually.

When you are ready, natural refreshing options are explained in a refreshed, less tired look .
