FAQ
Can Fillers Be Dissolved? Filler Reversal in Seoul
Quick answer
Yes, hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which breaks the filler down over roughly 24 to 48 hours. Collagen stimulators such as Sculptra and permanent fillers cannot be dissolved this way. At The Heal in Jamsil, Seoul, a dermatologist confirms your filler type before any reversal. How does hyaluronidase work?
Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid. When injected into an area with HA filler, it starts to soften the product within hours, and most of the change is visible within one to two days. Some stubborn or cross-linked products need a second session.
It is also an emergency treatment: if HA filler ever compresses a blood vessel, prompt hyaluronidase is the key step. This is one reason we prefer reversible HA products for most dermal filler treatments.
Which fillers can and cannot be dissolved?
- Can be dissolved: hyaluronic acid fillers, the most common type used in lips, under-eyes, chin and cheeks.
- Cannot be dissolved: poly-L-lactic acid ( Sculptra ), calcium hydroxylapatite, and permanent fillers such as silicone or PMMA.
If you do not know what was injected abroad or years ago, bring any records you have. We may use ultrasound assessment and a small test before deciding on reversal.
Why do people dissolve filler?
Common reasons include lumps, overfilled lips, a puffy or bluish look under the eyes (the Tyndall effect), filler that has migrated, or simply wanting a fresh start before a new plan. Under-eye filler is a frequent case because the skin there is thin; see under-eye filler for how we approach this area today.
After dissolving, we usually wait about two weeks before re-injecting so swelling settles and the true baseline is clear.
Is dissolving filler safe?
Hyaluronidase is widely used, but it can cause swelling, redness and, rarely, allergic reactions, so we ask about allergies first and may do a skin test. The enzyme can also slightly soften your own natural hyaluronic acid for a short time, which recovers.
Expect some swelling for one to three days. Plan this before a trip home rather than on the last day; our how many days you need in Seoul guide can help.
If you are unhappy with filler from elsewhere, book a filler review and allow 2 to 3 days before flying.

Frequently asked
Can fillers be dissolved? Related questions
Does dissolving filler hurt?
It feels similar to a filler injection: a quick sting followed by brief warmth. The area may feel tender for a day or two.
Will my face look worse after dissolving?
Some areas can look slightly flatter for a while, especially if filler was in place for a long time. Many people choose a light, well-placed refill after two weeks.
Can I dissolve filler injected at another clinic?
Yes, as long as it is a hyaluronic acid filler. Records of the product name help us plan dose and approach.
How many sessions does it take?
Often one, sometimes two spaced a few days to two weeks apart, depending on the amount and type of filler.
