Frown Lines Treatment in Seoul: Softening the 11 Lines
Quick answer
Frown lines, the vertical "11 lines" between the eyebrows, respond very well to Botox, which relaxes the corrugator and procerus muscles that pull the brows together. Lines that remain at rest can be improved with skin boosters. At The Heal in Jamsil, Seoul, a board-certified dermatologist doses to look relaxed rather than frozen. There is no downtime, and results vary. Ask us on KakaoTalk about same-day treatment.

What causes frown lines between the brows?
The glabella, the area between your eyebrows, contains strong muscles that pull the brows inward and downward when you frown, concentrate or squint. The vertical lines they create are often called "11 lines." Contributing factors include:
- Muscle strength: some people naturally have powerful frown muscles.
- Habit: concentrating at screens, driving into the sun or reading without glasses.
- Skin aging: collagen loss lets the creases remain at rest.
- Stress and sleep: tension can increase how often you frown.
Because these lines can make you look angry or tired, they are one of the most common reasons people first consider Botox.
How a dermatologist assesses the 11 lines
Dr. Yang asks you to frown firmly and then relax, to judge muscle strength and pattern. Frown patterns differ: some pull mostly inward, others also pull downward or involve the forehead. Dosing follows that pattern. She also checks whether lines are deeply etched at rest, which signals that skin-quality care will be needed alongside muscle relaxation. Brow position and eyelid heaviness are reviewed so the forehead and glabella are treated in balance. A conservative first treatment, with adjustments if needed, keeps your expression natural and lets you see how your face responds.
Treatment options at The Heal, ranked by suitability
- Botox: Botox for glabellar lines is FDA-approved and remains the most effective first step.
- Skin boosters for etched lines: Rejuran Healer or Juvelook improve thin, creased skin over several sessions.
- Texture refinement: gentle laser or RF microneedling can help selected deep creases.
- Balanced upper-face plan: treating frown lines with forehead lines and crow's feet gives a harmonious result.
Filler is rarely used in this area because of its delicate blood supply, so we favor safer alternatives. Most patients need only Botox at first; boosters are added when lines stay etched after a couple of treatment cycles.
Home care and daily habits
Wear sunglasses outdoors to reduce squinting, and make sure your glasses or contact lens prescription is current. Lower the brightness of screens and take short breaks during long sessions of concentrated work. Use sunscreen and a moisturizer daily, and consider a retinoid at night to support collagen. Some people find that noticing their frowning habit, especially when stressed, helps reduce it. Overnight silicone patches between the brows offer short-term smoothing. None of these will reverse established lines, but they help maintain treatment results longer. Small adjustments to daily routine add up over months.
Safety and when to see a doctor
Botox in the frown area is very well studied. Small bruises or a mild headache can occur, and a temporary drooping eyelid is uncommon when the dose is placed correctly. Treatment is postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding, with active skin infection, or certain neuromuscular disorders. A deep vertical line that suddenly appears with other changes in skin or sensation should be checked medically. The treatment takes minutes and leaves no wound, so it is easy to fit in before a flight; request an appointment and read same-day treatment for timing. Bring a list of medications you take.
The Heal approach
We soften frowning while preserving natural brow movement, so you look rested and approachable rather than frozen.

Frequently asked
Frown Lines: your questions answered
How many units of Botox do frown lines need?
It depends on muscle strength, sex and pattern. Men and people with strong frown muscles often need more. Dr. Yang decides the dose after examining your frown and starts conservatively when you are new to treatment.
Can frown lines be filled with filler?
The glabella is considered a higher-risk area for filler because of its blood vessels. Botox and skin boosters are safer first options, and we generally avoid filler here. Ask us about alternatives that suit you.
When will I see results?
Muscle relaxation begins in a few days and reaches its full effect in about two weeks. Etched lines continue to soften over subsequent treatment cycles as the skin is no longer creased daily.
Is there an age to start frown line Botox?
There is no fixed age. Some people start in their late 20s or 30s when lines first stay visible at rest. Starting earlier at low doses can help prevent deep creases from forming.
