FAQ
How Long Does Botox Last? A Seoul Dermatologist Explains
Quick answer
Botox for expression lines usually lasts about 3 to 4 months, while jaw (masseter) Botox often lasts around 4 to 6 months because the muscle gradually shrinks. Effects fade slowly rather than stopping suddenly. At The Heal in Jamsil, Seoul, we time repeat sessions to your muscle strength and goals; results vary from person to person. Message us on KakaoTalk to plan your timing.

Why does Botox wear off?
Botulinum toxin works by temporarily blocking the signal between a nerve and the muscle it controls. The muscle relaxes, so the crease it creates softens. Over the following months the nerve endings form new connections and normal movement slowly returns. This is a natural, expected process rather than a sign the treatment failed.
Because the return is gradual, most people notice lines reappearing faintly at first. Many choose to book their next session when movement is coming back but before lines are fully etched again. You can read more about the treatment itself on our Botox in Seoul page.
How long does each area last?
- Forehead, frown lines and crow's feet: commonly 3 to 4 months.
- Jaw or masseter: often 4 to 6 months, as the bulky chewing muscle thins over time. See jaw Botox .
- Skin Botox (micro-injections in the dermis): shorter, often around 2 to 3 months, aimed at pores, oil and fine texture. See skin Botox .
These are typical ranges, not promises. Your own timeline depends on dose, muscle size and how strongly you use those muscles.
What makes Botox wear off faster?
Several factors influence duration:
- Muscle strength: strong, active muscles (common in men and very expressive faces) may need more units and recover sooner.
- Dose: a very light dose for a natural look may fade a little earlier.
- Metabolism and activity: some people simply process it faster.
- Treatment history: regular, well-spaced sessions can help muscles stay softer, especially in the jaw.
Rarely, people develop antibodies that reduce response. Avoiding unnecessary top-ups at very short intervals is one reason we space sessions sensibly.
How can I make results last longer?
Keep sessions regular rather than waiting until lines are deep. Protect your skin daily with sunscreen, as UV damage deepens static lines that Botox cannot fully erase. For lines that remain even at rest, combining Botox with collagen-building treatments often gives a longer-lasting improvement; our guide to fine lines and wrinkles explains the options.
If you are pairing Botox with energy-based lifting, ask about sequencing; we cover this in Botox with lifting .

Frequently asked
How long does Botox last? Related questions
Does Botox last longer the more often I have it?
Some patients find muscles stay softer with consistent, well-spaced sessions, particularly in the jaw where the muscle thins. Results vary, and very frequent top-ups are not recommended.
How soon can I repeat Botox?
Most dermatologists suggest waiting at least around 3 months between full treatments of the same area. A small touch-up about two weeks after the first session is sometimes done to fine-tune balance.
Is it a problem if I stop Botox?
No. If you stop, muscle movement simply returns to how it was before. Your face will not look older than it would have without treatment.
Can I have Botox in Seoul and repeat it at home?
Yes. We give you a written note of the areas treated so a qualified doctor at home can continue your plan. Product names and dosing units can differ between brands and countries.
