Pigmentation & Brightening
StarWalker Laser in Seoul for Spots and Skin Toning
Quick answer
StarWalker is a multi-wavelength Q-switched pigment laser platform that delivers very short, high-power pulses to break up melanin, used for sun spots, freckles and gentle laser toning. At The Heal in Jamsil, Seoul, a dermatologist chooses the wavelength and pulse mode for each lesion and skin type. Toning has little downtime, while spot removal leaves small crusts for about a week. Send photos for a first assessment.

What is StarWalker?
StarWalker is a pigment and tattoo laser platform made by Fotona. It is based on Q-switched Nd:YAG technology and offers several wavelengths and pulse modes in one system. Different wavelengths are absorbed at different depths and by different colors, so having several options lets the doctor match the laser to the lesion rather than the other way round.
The system delivers extremely short, high-peak pulses that fragment pigment with a photoacoustic effect. It can be used with focused spots for individual lesions or in broad, low-energy passes for laser toning across the face.
What StarWalker is used for
- Sun spots and age spots on the face and hands — see freckles and sunspot removal
- Freckles , which often lighten well but can return with sun exposure
- Laser toning for dull or uneven tone as part of a laser toning series
- Selected deeper pigment , depending on the lesion and doctor's assessment
- Tattoo lightening , which needs multiple sessions
Not every brown spot is suitable for laser. Raised, irregular or changing lesions are examined first and may need a biopsy or a different treatment. The doctor marks the suitable spots before treatment begins.
StarWalker or pico laser?
Both lasers target pigment with very short pulses. PicoK uses picosecond pulses that deliver even less heat, which can be helpful for melasma-prone or sensitive skin. StarWalker's range of wavelengths and modes makes it versatile for discrete spots and freckles.
In practice, the doctor may use one, the other, or both across a series, depending on how your skin responds. What matters most is correct diagnosis, conservative energy on pigment-prone skin, and consistent sun protection between sessions. If you have had laser before, bring details of what was used so the doctor can factor in how your skin reacted. The aim is steady, safe progress rather than the strongest possible settings in one visit.
Who is a good candidate?
StarWalker suits adults with discrete sun spots or freckles, or those wanting a toning series for brighter, more even skin. Lighter and medium skin types often respond well; darker skin can be treated with careful settings and a test spot when appropriate.
Treatment is postponed with a recent tan, active infection or cold sores in the area, and may be adjusted during pregnancy. Tell the doctor about photosensitizing medications, keloid history or recent isotretinoin use. Melasma needs a gentler, long-term approach and is usually managed within melasma treatment . Avoid self-tanning products before treatment as well.
Recovery, results and travel
After spot treatment, lesions turn darker or greyish and form thin crusts that fall off in roughly five to seven days. A protective patch can be used, and makeup can go around treated spots. Toning leaves only mild pinkness for a few hours. Use sunscreen daily, because new UV exposure can bring freckles back.
Flying after either is fine. If you want spots fully healed before photos or going home, book early in your trip. Book a consultation and the doctor will confirm which spots are suitable and how many visits fit your stay. Results vary between individuals.
The Heal approach
We examine every spot before treating it, then choose StarWalker's wavelength and mode lesion by lesion instead of applying one setting to the whole face.

Frequently asked
StarWalker Laser: your questions answered
Will my spots come back after StarWalker?
Treated sun spots often stay lighter, but new spots and freckles can appear with continued sun exposure. Daily sunscreen and occasional maintenance help keep results. Many people schedule a check-up before summer.
Does StarWalker treatment hurt?
It feels like quick snaps of a rubber band. Toning is usually comfortable without numbing; numbing cream can be used for many spots or sensitive areas. The sensation lasts only a few minutes.
How soon can I wear makeup?
After toning, the same day. After spot removal, you can apply makeup around treated spots, but avoid covering crusts until they have fallen off naturally. Gentle cleansing helps the crusts shed on schedule.
Is StarWalker suitable for melasma?
Melasma requires very gentle, low-energy approaches and a long-term plan. The doctor may use toning carefully, but melasma is usually managed with combined therapy rather than spot removal. Strict sun protection is a key part of that plan.
